Hand on Handlebars

Spring is a great time to get out and enjoy the beautiful Florida weather. If you're an outdoor enthusiast, it might mean more trips on your motorcycle.

You might not have used your bike a lot during the winter. In fact, some Ocala motorcycle owners put their bikes in storage until spring and summer beckon. If you are just pulling your bike out for the new season, take the time to get it ready before hitting the road. It might save you a lot of trouble later.

Review Your Motorcycle Insurance

If you own a bike, you need to insure it. Motorcycle insurance is often like a standard car policy. It can contain coverage options such as liability, collision, comprehensive and uninsured/underinsured protection. However, its limits better address the specific needs of the bike it covers.

Before hitting the road, take a look at your policy. Make sure its limits adequately represent your needs. If you need to increase your coverage, your Ahrens Insurance agent can help you do so. Also make sure you renew the policy if its expiration date is approaching.

Take Your Bike For Comprehensive Maintenance

If your bike has sat in your garage for a couple of months, you'll need to prepare it for riding. Disuse can cause deterioration to the vehicle. So make sure to maintain your bike before you crank it back up on the open road.

Take the bike to a mechanic or perform the maintenance yourself (if you have the expertise). Have the oil changed, inspect the engine and top off the other fluid levels. Also test all control surfaces, including throttles and brake systems. Change, rotate or fill up the air in the tires.

Motorcycle insurance likely won't cover standard maintenance. But that shouldn't stop you from performing these repairs. Poorly maintained motorcycles present a safety and accident risk. That risk can be eliminated with regular maintenance.

Test And Replace Your Safety Gear

Once the time comes to ride, you'll need to protect yourself. Some bikers wear helmets, pads, special boots or other safety clothing, but plan on wearing gear to protect yourself regardless. Inspect your gear for weak spots or signs of damage, and replace it as needed.

Call Ahrens Insurance at (352) 368-7090 to talk to your agent about updating your Ocala motorcycle insurance. With the right care, you won't have to worry when you take to the road.
